"I learned more about myself in 8 months of couples counseling than I have in 3 years of individual therapy." -- Past Client
Who I work with: I work with non-traditional and traditional relationships of many configurations (conscious monogamy, ethical non-monogamy, etc), emphasizing queer and marginalized or oppressed identities, as well as folks who are wanting to explore their gender and sexuality. Topics like opening up a previously monogamous relationship, differing levels of desire, communication issues, dealing with jealousy or controlling dynamics, conscious uncoupling and more are all on the table to be discussed.
Who I don’t work with: active domestic violence and abuse and active addiction/drug use. For DV resources, please call the National Domestic Violence hotline at 800-799-7233, text START to 88788, or go to www.thehotline.org. For addiction resources, please visit www.samhsa.gov.
What to expect (the therapist jargon): I blend a number of approaches to the work we do in session, including Relational Life Therapy, EFT, The Gottman Method, and find role models in folks like Esther Perel and Martha Kauppi. I am also an EMDR therapist and take interventions and practices from therapeutic models such as attachment, somatic-experiencing, Gestalt, existentialism, and psychodynamic therapies and theories. Giving out homework may happen, particularly at the start, but is otherwise not my go-to, showing up farther and fewer between and dependent on the work we’re doing.
What I expect: Folks who are motivated, open, and willing to engage in the deepening of self-discovery and discovery of other with your partner by your side, which requires both vulnerability and honesty from self and the creation of space for vulnerability and honesty for your partner. As well, it’s important that you recognize that if you’re seeking this kind of therapy, you are inviting the needle on the current status quo of your relationship to change, and change can be rewarding, liberating, and uncomfortable. People who want to deepen their relationship not just with their partner but also with themself. People who want to reignite their passion for both their partner and their life. People who are reflective and open to receiving honest feedback about how they are showing up in their relationship, which may very well transcend into other relationships outside of the one sitting in session.
My previous education: I graduated with an MA in Professional Mental Health Counseling specializing in addiction at The Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education & Counseling in 2021. Prior to this, I interned at Legacy Hospital as a CADC in training, Unity in their triage department, and Connective Therapy Collective as a couples and relationship counselor intern and eventually became a full-time associate before coming to MFSP. I also have experience volunteering at the Lewis and Clark Problem Gambling Services and was a Peer Support Specialist for Colorado's Rocky Mountain Crisis Center. I am an EMDR therapist and have training in Gottman, RLT, crisis interventions, and more. I am currently a registered associate working towards licensure and I receive ongoing supervision.
Who I am: I am a white, queer but straight-passing, neurodivergent (ADHD), cis-gender female/gender-questioning person. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania in a traditionally Jewish, but more so spiritually agnostic/atheist, divorced home(s) where elements of addiction were present. I am currently able-bodied, though I have experience with chronic pain. I am also a person who explores non-traditional relationship dynamics (ENM) and elements of kink, and working with couples of all configurations is my passion! I like to blend a mix of genuine care, humor, and that East-coast directness into our work together. I am highly relational and think the relationship we are privileged to build in session is not only a gift, but can be a major agent of change to the therapeutic process. In my opinion, there is nothing more sacred than the work to arrive at oneself and become known, and it’s an honor to share that space in your life with you. We may share some identities, and others we may not, which I invite to be discussed as it feels relevant to you. I aim to meet you from a trauma-informed, intersectional lens that honors your history, background, culture, race, age, and ethnicity, and find ways to tie all of it into our work together. I recognize I walk through the world with certain unearned privileges not afforded to many, and my work in unlearning socially constructed binaries, binds, and biases is life-long. Before I became a therapist, I worked in graphic design, sales, and as a nanny to some incredible kiddos who are forever in my life. Sometimes I play the banjo, attempt to play the guitar, and might even entertain the idea of thinking about playing the piano. I also like to play video games, lift weights, dabble in storytelling, eat yummy food and then collapse on a couch with people I love, and explore the beautiful land of the PNW.
More than anything, I am utterly honored to do this work and am so looking forward to connecting with you and seeing if we’re a good fit. :)
