Maria Williquette, LMFT
Healing comes in many forms. With a dual background in psychology and yoga I will work with you to discover the ways in which you best can accomplish your goals. My approach to therapy combines the holistic and body oriented stances of Eastern Philosophies and Mindfulness Practices with current incarnations of Attachment and Systems oriented therapies. I am relationally and depth oriented. I work best with clients who are ready to do deep work and make real changes in their life. As a yoga teacher, I guide students to move slowly and with awareness of their bodies, while tending to their mind and emotions. In both my therapy sessions and yoga classes, working with the nervous system is of paramount importance. Maria is not accepting new clients.

I will strive to have your therapy sessions be a place to deepen your understanding of both personal identity and environment to more fully recognize areas you’d like to change, accept or grow. My goal is to highlight how social, cultural and environmental factors participate in your overall well-being and mental health. I come to therapeutic work as a Clinical Social Worker and I believe that everyone can work to realize their own idea of mental wellness and optimal mental health. I prioritize building a connected therapeutic relationship. I am currently accepting new clients.

I believe that everyone has the ability & capacity to build a life that's worth living. The development of self acceptance & balance is key. We might be a good fit if you’re looking for therapy around: depression, anxiety, PTSD, life transition, career trauma, or couples/ marriage counseling. I have a multidisciplinary approach in therapy that includes Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), Mindfulness based interventions, Narrative therapy, Attachment theory based interventions, and Trauma informed care.

My therapeutic approach integrates the different components of who clients are as an individual, as well as addressing any outside influences affecting who they are as a whole. It is important to me to meet my clients "where they are at, and as who they are." What I mean by this is that I strongly value being responsive to various cultures, associations, intersectionalities, and intergenerational traditions and traumas as these can all impact our mental well-being and healing.

I enjoy being collaborative in my work with others and am passionate about supporting others to identify goals and helping people. I have worked with youth and family in various roles for twenty years and enjoy working with adults as well. My approach includes using trauma informed practices and perspectives drawing from components of several different models and theories including Attachment Theory based interventions ,harm reduction practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness practices Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Understanding all the layers of intersectional systemic problems and environments which directly impact oneself is another aspect of the work I really enjoy doing with people. We all have experiences and things that have created barriers to living our lives more fully and successfully, which is different for each of us. I
would be honored to walk with you on your journey to more growth, change, and healing.

I offer my strengths-based, trauma-informed, narrative-centered lens to your experiences and the space we hold together. I hope to co-create a warm, safe, and affirming environment for you to allow yourself to feel deeply, build up hope, and tap into the resilience that you already have. I firmly believe that our bodies, emotions, and minds are inherently connected and that an integral part in healing our emotional side is to work on integrating all parts of ourselves. I believe that there are many different ways to heal, process, and grieve and am interested in helping you find the path that serves you best emotionally, mentally, and relationally. I believe counseling is a collaborative effort in helping clients to recognize strengths, identify needs, understand conflicts, discover new options, set goals, and make informed choices. Above all else, I hope to sit with you in the big and the small and provide space where you can consistently feel seen and valued.

I work with adults in their times of reckoning and transition. I have a great love for work with mourners and with parents of very young children.
I may be the therapist for you if: You're grieving the death of a loved one- or the loss of a dream, relationship, or identity- and you want a container for the enormous feelings pounding your mind, body, and spirit. You're coming to terms with the limits of your own time on earth and seeking clarity on your path. You're challenged by the early years of parenthood, thoughtful about your tiny person's development and your own unfolding transformation. You may be wishing to know and love yourself better, and so to better love the people close to you. |
