I enjoying working with motivated people who are tired of repeating the same painful patterns and are looking to learn more about themselves and try a different way of doing things. I believe the trying a new way is the most important (and sometimes terrifying!) part of the process, and I will stand with you in it - you are not alone. If we want to feel differently, get unstuck, and be more aligned with who we truly want to be, we may need to think or do differently.
With me, you can rely on a non-judgmental, welcoming, warm and supportive space and I will work hard to understand your goals (or help you find and shape your goals), and encourage you to take the steps needed to reach those goals. I believe acceptance, compassion, and willingness are the strongest skills we possess, so you can expect to work on these things in therapy with me. It is imporant to me to be inclusive and affirming of diversity in gender, sexuality, race, body size, and ability. My personal values are to be an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and to be anti-racist.
Much of my approach comes from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) along with attachment theory and emotion-focused therapy (EFT) so many of the skills we use will focus on:
-challenging self-defeating thoughts
-regulating intense emotions
-calming our trauma response
-communicating effectively
Couples Therapy
I use elements of emotionally focused therapy (EFT) and The Gottman Method and integrate both approaches to better assist couples in learning to navigate conflict, heal past wounds, deepen friendship, and increase intimacy. These approaches combine attachment-based ideas, addressing the emotional bond in a relationship and the painful patterns couples get stuck in, along with approachable and straightforward techniques couples can use immediately to improve their relationship.
Through this combination of therapies, couples can expect to walk away from each session with simple and practical actions to put into practice as well as a greater understanding of their emotional needs.
Couples therapy can be helpful for many types of partnerships, and it is important to me to be inclusive toward all types of bonds. Committed partnerships, long-term relationships, marriages, pre-marital and pre-engagement, polyamorous and EMN relationships are all welcome.
